The hand tool range with the little fish and hook, otherwise known as Bahco, has been widely accepted and embraced across Australia, and for good reason.
With over 24,000 products globally and a majority of these manufactured in-house, quality and innovation are the pillars of this company’s success.
Growth in Australia and globally is set to continue with Bahco’s ERGO range. This range has been developed in direct R&D with elite tradies globally, ergonomists and industrial designers. It has incorporated their direct assessment and feedback to produce a range of tools that have been designed to improve performance and reduce strain, stress and fatigue of the end-user as well as creating new features that haven’t been seen before. From reshaping handle grips, adjusting angles and evolving material selection and overall design, the ERGO range will fit like a glove, be more efficient and last longer than its competition.
Test 1. Adjustable Wrench 9072 P Series
This hand tool is no ordinary shifter – the 9072 P Series has a combination reversible jaw, which means you can remove the jam and reverse to use it as a pipe wrench. The thermoplastic handle allows you to pick this up with your bare hands on a hot summer day (and vice-versa if it’s left out in the cold!)
You can tell just by its look and feel this wrench means business. Its one-piece, forged steel handle and other elements have been produced to exceed ISO standards. It’s as tough as it is comfortable and easy to use. Great angles, balance and movable jaw have all equally evolved to make this one of the best adjustable wrenches I have used. The smoothness and precision of the knurl is a standout, which comes back to the latest technology being used in the factory in Spain.
Test 2. Handsaw
I guess a good place to start with the handsaw is comfort and cutting ability. In our test when hand sawing both pine (90 x 45) and cedar if felt impressive and performed exceptionally well.
Made in Sweden with local Swedish steel, there are several features that have seamlessly combined to produce a great handsaw. First, the handle and grip feel great with a thermoplastic surface on tough polypropylene. There is a unique angle that takes the pressure off the wrist, and a black low friction/rust-protective coating allows the blade to glide through cuts. A thicker and firmer blade also reduces any wobble when cutting, allowing smoother and cleaner cuts and a unique hardpoint NXT-teething with more features than I have room to mention means this saw ticks all the boxes.
Test 3. Screwdrivers
You wouldn’t think there is a lot of room to improve the trusty old screwdriver, but I was impressed with what Bahco had improved in this age-old hand tool. A blacktip produces precision use with no flaking of metal or coatings that can start the corroding process on stainless steel fixing. The high-performance steel adds strength and reliability. But the big one for me was the rounded almost bulb-like end of the handle, which even when applying maximum pressure felt great in hand. Due to the round edges working pressure is spread evenly across the hand/palm, which reduces stress or strain. A flat face stops the tool from rolling off tables and benches. Again, there are more features than I have space.

Test 4. Bahco Chisels
The Chisel range has been produced with precision ground blades for maximum sharpness from hardened and tempered quality steel. The 434 series we had to test lived up to the hype effortlessly slicing through our Oregon length. Even when just pushing the chisels with my palm, the ERGO handle’s rounded base felt extraordinarily comfortable and precise as I drove the blade through the timber. From detailed work onsite to timber window and door specialists these ultra-sharp and strong chisels are comfortable to use because they are strong. These chisels will be your go-to moving forward with sizes from 6-50mm.
The Wrap- Up
With such an impressive line-up of hand tools and history of producing cutting tools and industrial strength bandsaws designed for cutting large billets of steel or train wheels, it’s no surprise Bahco’s bandsaw blades are just as impressive. Some other products we had on hand for our test that thoroughly impressed were the ERGO pliers, ERGO files and ERGO slip joint plier.
