TOPCON’s RL-H5A Self-Leveling Motors

TOPCON’s RL-H5A is the latest release of high quality, trade tough, self-levelling construction lasers that are not only tough, but also straightforward to use and within seconds you’ll be ready for all your levelling needs.

It can be used for horizontal and sloping laser applications with slopes up to +|- 5 per cent in x-axis. The slope matching feature is excellent for grading and excavation works so you can check grade on your flat and slope work. Ease of use and durability are critical components to any quality tool or equipment on site – so far the TOPCON RL-H5A ticks both boxes.

The range on the TOPCON RL-H5A is excellent – 400m away is a fair distance to cover, but the RL-H5A rises to the challenge providing a massive 800m diameter working range! Great for small-scale sites all the way up to large-scale sites.

The self-levelling motors are accurate to +/- 1.5mm @ 30m, which will provide a minimal chance of error and have you levelling seconds after pressing the ‘on’ button. A standout feature for me is that if the laser gets disturbed on the job, an elevation alert notifies the user with an ‘out of level’ alarm ensuring accuracy every time.

The RL-H5A is job site tough. Its IP66 rating can withstand dust, a sudden shower or torrential rainfall so you can rest assured it will be safe outside when you make the dash for the site shed when it starts to sprinkle. Providing up to 60 hours of continuous operation with the rechargeable battery pack or 100 hours with 4 x D-cell batteries, the RL-H5A combined with the LS-80L or LS-100D sensor is a powerful package.

We had the TOPCON RL-H5A on-site for a few weeks and we were very impressed with its performance

It’s rugged, built tough, very quick and easy to use and saved a mountain of time, but not forgetting how accurate it has been. Setting out RLs and finished floor levels has been a breeze and set-outs for driveway slopes are too easy.

We also got plenty of runtime out of the TOPCON. The included D-cell batteries gave us many weeks’ worth of work with pretty heavy use.

The 5-year warranty is a massive selling point for me. For a company to back their products with that kind of warranty, you know they think highly, not only of their tools, but also their customers. It gives customers the confidence to purchase and then know they will be looked after in the event of an issue.

Treat these lasers with care and you will get many, many years out of them! That’s a lot of productivity on site.
